Certificate of Polysomnographic Technology

An innovative certificate program in Polysomnographic Technology is being offered by Highline Community College in a consortium with Edmonds Community College, Olympic College and Tacoma Community College. This program provides comprehensive preparation for entry into this important field.

  • Lecture courses are offered in an on-line format to provide greater accessibility and student convenience. To see an example of an on-line classroom and identify yourself as an on-line learner visit http://www.flightline.highline.edu/distanceed. Take the quiz “Is Online Learning for Me?".
  • Hands-on lab experience is provided in conjunction with the on-line courses mainly at the Highline Community College practice sleep lab. Students will have the opportunity to develop skills under the guidance of an instructor while working in small groups. Laboratory sessions are scheduled in eight hour blocks two Sundays a month.
  • A clinical internship is provided in conjunction with the on-line courses during the third quarter of the program. Students are assigned to individual clinical internships at one of 23 labs in the state.

Through the combination of on-line lecture, hands-on practice in a laboratory setting and patient contact in a clinical practicum, the student will develop the expertise needed to become a professional Polysomnographic Technology Technician.

  • The Polysomnographic Technology certificate program is a full- time three quarter program that only begins once a year in the fall quarter.

  • Students must complete prerequisite classes before they can apply and meet certain instructional requirements to be accepted. Application deadline is May 1, 2010.  Information regarding requirements for entry can be found at the Certificate Application Packet link.
  • Applications submitted after the deadline will be put on an alternate list.  Acceptance letters will be out by July 1, 2010.
