Certificate of Polysomnographic Technology
An innovative certificate
program in Polysomnographic Technology is being offered by Highline
Community College in a consortium with Edmonds Community College,
Olympic College and Tacoma Community College.
This program provides comprehensive preparation for entry into
this important field.
- Lecture courses
are offered in an on-line format to provide greater accessibility
and student convenience. To see an example of an on-line classroom

- Hands-on lab
experience is provided in conjunction with the on-line courses
mainly at the Highline Community College practice sleep lab. Students
will have the opportunity to develop skills under the guidance
of an instructor while working in small groups. Laboratory
sessions are scheduled in eight hour blocks two Sundays a month.
- A clinical internship
is provided in conjunction with the on-line courses during the
third quarter of the program. Students are assigned to individual
clinical internships at one of 23 labs in the state.
Through the combination of on-line lecture, hands-on practice
in a laboratory setting and patient contact in a clinical practicum,
the student will develop the expertise needed to become
a professional Polysomnographic Technology Technician.
- The Polysomnographic Technology certificate program is
a full- time three quarter
program that only begins once a year in the fall quarter.
- Students must complete prerequisite
classes before they can apply and meet certain instructional
requirements to be accepted. Application deadline is May 1,
2010. Information regarding requirements for entry can be
found at the Certificate Application Packet link.
- Applications submitted after the
deadline will be put on an alternate list. Acceptance
letters will be out by July 1, 2010.

Before you will be eligible for
admission you must submit a packet containing all of the
following items to Highline:
- A Highline Community College
Application*. *New students only. Application to Highline
Community College can be found at:
www.highline.edu
- A Polysomnography Program
Application. Fall quarter admittance only. Program applications are available from the Admissions/Entry Services
representatives on the Highline Community College campus in
building 6 or can be printed from the Certificate Application
Packet link above. Applications for 201--2022 will be
available after December 1, 2009.
- Current resume with emphasis
on work experience.
- Transcripts from other
colleges you have attended for the minimum prerequisites of
1) 2 credits medical terminology;
2) 5 credits of basic anatomy and physiology and
3) 7 hour HIV/AIDS/Blood-borne Pathogen training approved by the
State of Washington. (the prerequisites can be taken at HCC or
any approved accredited college). The courses are the
minimum required, higher level academic courses may qualify.
- Transcripts of the prerequisite
courses. Transcripts from Highline Community College do
not need to be submitted.
- Evidence of
COMPASS or equivalent exam scores at a college level.
Program

Information is available after January 1, 2010 for the
2010-2011 year.
